Beirut, Lebanon Nov. 2018 The Shatila Refugee Camp →

CTC Photography was recently on assignment in Beirut, Lebanon. The tasks were to shoot a music video and to capture some stills. Constructed in 1949 by the red Cross, in order to host several hundred Palestinian refugees… it now today hosts between 20-40,000 people… in an area roughly 1 kilometer squared. In a country where approximately 60% of people live below the poverty line… the conditions within the camp’s damp concrete walls, are staggering. The camp is a testament of what can happen to neglected refugees, in a country that tries to ignore them. Electricity is scarce and comes and goes irregularly. The running water that you can find is salty and undrinkable. Nobody wants to live there… who would when you are deprived of your basic human rights? Unable to get working permits and not eligible for regular housing… the residents watch the days fade in to the next. The residents are “stateless”… have no real rights… have very little protection… and are left with little to no hope. A very memorable trip, and one that was a firm reminder of just how lucky we are as humans to be born in to the lives we find ourselves in. Remember gratitude. The day was hosted by Mette Walsted Vestergaard, and 25 speakers were featured, all from leading positions within the hotel and restaurant business. Current industry trends, future opportunities and challenges, along with physical and conceptual ways to make overall improvements, were all discussed throughout the day. It was such an honour to be a part of Phil and Katrine’s wedding celebration on Santorini! A stellar group of people... nothing but sunshine... and an island that is made for weddings if you ask me! Truly an amazing celebration of love... and a lot of football thrown in there too ;) The island is an incredible place to relax and has a vibe that I haven’t really found anywhere else before... all topped off with genuinely good hearted people. I’ve already asked them to host an anniversary party there... at least once a year!! One of my favourite things to photograph, is concerts. There are so many unknowns... and so many changes happening in short periods. Sporadic movement... ever changing lighting... and moods which ebb and flow hundreds of times within an hour. And some shows are slow moving... consistent and smooth. Even if you have 3 lights to work with... you need to make it work. Here is Andy Bilinski at Lille Vega, supporting Noah Gundersen.
